Working at Big South Fork Medical Center

By Crystalle, MedSurg Manager

As I look back on National Hospital Week last week, I began to reflect on my experience working here and what makes this small community hospital a diamond in the rough. When I first came to BSFMC, I was excited to learn and grow in a new management position and to see it thrive to provide quality care to our community.

Over the last two years, we have had many challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic swept through our county and the organization struggled to remain a healthcare source to our community. During that time I saw great resilience in our staff and a deeper commitment in our corporate and facility leadership teams. Our corporate division made continuous efforts to invest in our community and our employees. I work with each employee from administration, nursing, ancillary services, housekeeping dietary, maintenance, registration, and financial services and have found such a deep commitment and desire to be innovative and provide exceptional care to our hometown.

Today, because of the commitment and resilience of our BSFMC and Rennova Healthcare Team we can offer stability and longevity to our employees as well as a place to be innovative and creative. We are working to improve our services to the community through new outpatient services, inpatient services, emergency services, and ancillary services. It is our company’s goal to have a hospital that provides excellent care to our community, and to provide stability and growth to our community workforce.

As a manager at BSFMC, I want to be a part of building a culture that cares for the employee as we do the patient. I recently visited a larger health system in East Tennessee and found that the nurse patient ratios were eight to one and ancillary services such as respiratory therapy were overwhelmed due to staffing shortages. Being part of the BSF team means teamwork and our small population enables us to have lower nurse to patient ratios and ancillary services have a lighter load. Our corporate office has worked hard to make our pay comparable to the region and have new pay rates and sign on bonuses available. We have so many growth opportunities across the facility, and it is an exciting time to join our team.

I love working at BSFMC because of the team culture, the ability to be innovative and create change, the leadership support of staff, and the desire of the hospital employees and leadership to provide excellent care to the community. The continued commitment and investment of Rennova in our hospital validates my job stability and continued growth and success as a practitioner. I would love to welcome you to our team at BSF and have you be a part of a wonderful working experience!
